The Journey of Life
There are many journeys in the Bible. Among these many journeys are a number of people that have given us direction and understanding through their many travels even still today. The Old Testament tells of physical journeys, spiritual journeys, journeys of pursuit of self, others and even wealth. These Journeys have been evident to change the trajectory of personal lives, families, peoples, nations and entire countries.
The journey of Abraham ignited a nation of people, not even knowing they were a nation, to an everlasting pursuit of God as “His people” (Jeremiah 30:22). This journey took the generations of his family through a path of knowing God as Father as their faithful God even in their rebellion towards Him. Likewise, the journeys of the 12 Apostles and Apostle Paul, who encountered Jesus Christ, not only did their journey change their lives, but changed the world forever.
What do all these journey’s have in common? No matter the reason, way or condition of the journey, all of them are tied to a destination! In a world that elevates destiny in the mind and hearts of people, destination is often minimized or even eliminated. Although destiny is discovered along many levels during the journey, destination must always motivate the continuation of any journey. A journey without destination is simply one who wonders. One may experience the journey through trials, triumphs or even a self satisfying rest. However, if the journey is not consummated with a destination that solidifies the every reason, every way and every condition of the journey, the journey is aimless and has no lasting value. A true journey is not just traveling from place to place, but is also the conclusion of the journey that the destination of purpose reveals the reason the journey even existed.
Life in itself is a journey! Whether it is two seconds or 969 years, every moment, every second is tied to a destination. Destination is not simply where you are going but the purpose of the journey's existence. What is the destination of the journey of your life? Have you put the summation of your life in the success or failures of family, jobs, wealth, status, performance or temporary pleasures that must be seeked over and over? The destination of life must influence every aspect of your life, thus leading you forward through the “places” of life until it reaches itself. Destination is the total and final purpose of life and only the journey divinely designed for it will get you there.
If the Journey of Life ends with destination, where does it begin? Does the Journey of Life begin with your mother and father, family genealogy or whimsical intimacy between man and woman? Does the Journey of Life begin with the consciousness or desires of life or is it born and discovered with every pit stop along the way to destination. Although these may be deep thoughts of life itself, one has to admit that at least once in their life they have wondered and ask themselves, “Is there more to my life than this journey”?
The Journey of Life begins with the Giver of life not life itself! The Journey of Life begins with the One who is Creator(Genesis 1:27) the One who forms(Gen 2:7, Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:13) and only through Him are we Made(John 1:1-3). Life begins with God, Elohim the Creator and Imager of mankind. Every man, woman, boy and girl begins in the heart of Almighty God himself. Every move and resting step from place to place along on the Journey of Life leads to the Destination orchestrated by the Creator of life. The Beginning of Life is God! We begin and end with Him. How does this happen? What does this look like? How do I travel through the Journey of Life, led by God? How did God design my life that my destination would purpose every step of the way?
The only way to discover these questions is to discover life in Jesus Christ, coming into the understanding of God and living onward toward the divine destination of God(2Peter 1:3). The Journey of Life is present in every human being whether they see God as Creator of not! The Journey of Life outside of God exists, but it has a very different destination.
For those who are seeking God for answers and Seeking God to live, He sent son, Jesus Christ to extend His hand of his loving kindness to give us Life beyond existing (Ephesians 2). The gracious Father of us all and Jesus Christ, the Lord of all has given the people of this world, the blueprint of His will and the divine destination of each and every created being. Through the pages of His Word, from “In the Beginning” (Genesis 1:1) to “Come! (Revelation 22:17) we find life and the Journey of Life to our divine destinations! Glory to God this Journey of Life is to His Glory and He shall reveal His greatest work on earth, Christ in you(Col 1:27).
